Wednesday 16 November 2005: ijosh Music, Releases

Welcome friends, we are here to mourn the passing of another Tuesday, since I can’t seem to get this out on time anymore. I am hoping that will change after the holidays. For the mean time, let’s talk about music. Nothing new to mention this week, except go buy the Cyberl@b it’s an excellent comp. If you haven’t been picking up the music as we have gone along, this one is a must.

Next week we have a couple of great gift ideas for people who really like music. Queen is back and is on tour… how are they celebrating… MERCHANDISE. A 30th Anniversary Collectors CD/DVD bundle of A Night At The Opera comes out next week… I am interested to see what is on the DVD. This album is a must, not only does it include the bands most popular track “Bohemian Rhapsody”, but other greats like “You’re My Best Friend”, “In Love With My Car”, and “Death on Two Legs”. So it’s worth it to pick this up if you don’t have it, or have any Queen at all. Peter Gabriel delivers a DVD from the second tour following up his most recent album Still Growing Up: Live and Unwrapped. If this show is anything like the Growing Up tour than The DVD will be truly amazing and require that I bother my neighbors when I get it.

Thursday 10 November 2005: ijosh Music, Releases

Well it’s past Tuesday, but it’s still all about Tuesday. The expected Pig and Leæther Strip have not landed on my doorstep yet, but those aren’t the only things to talk about for this week. It nearly escaped me that the score/soundtrack for the movie version of popular first person shooter DOOM was put together by Clint Mansell, formerly of Pop Will Eat Itself, also known for his soundtrack/score work on other films like Saw, Requiem For A Dream, and Pi. I may have to rent the movie when it comes out just for that fact. Next up and “new” is a blast from the past, the Eurythmics grace us with The Ultimate Collection, a promo effort I am sure, as the eclectic duo are working on new material, and have re-mastered editions of their entire catalog being released next week.

Next week we have a late release, as it’s an import, it doesn’t follow the Tuesday rules. The latest compilation in the Cyberl@b series now up to Vol. 5.0 hits the streets with an exclusive track from Leæther Strip. And as mentioned above, but not posted in the list below, the Eurythmics catalog is being re-released, re-mastered, and re-hashed for profit. Don’t get me wrong they are an excellent group, I hope this gives them the infusion they need to produce something good.

Tuesday 1 November 2005: ijosh Music, Releases

Ah, another Tuesday… daylight savings started and halloween was just this past weekend, and it scared up something else for this week. A release from the archives of Nirvana, Silver: The Best of the Box, a collection of demo/rehersal/unreleased/live stuff, something any fan should own.

Next week has some interesting releases, the state side release of Raymond Watts project Pig’s latest, entitled Pigmatta, a fairly cohesive album overall. And something I am definitely looking forward to, the single heralding the return of Claus Larsen, otherwise known as Leæther Strip, the new EP Suicide Bombers comes out as an import for the US but should not be missed.

What a boring tuesday… I am not even going to write a lot today. Nothing new for this week that wasn’t expected… Although the new Thrill Kill sounds good, check it out.

Next week, we have nothing to talk about… should give me some time to get those reviews together. That’s all folks.

Tuesday 18 October 2005: ijosh Music, Reviews

Here Ye, Here Ye, the court of Tuesday is now in session. This week there is one addition to the expected releases, and something that according to every date I find actually came out mid-week. A Best Of collection from My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult one of the must funky-psycadelic industrial groups ever.

But the pre-holiday slump continues next week, with only one release to talk about, and it’s by a group mentioned for last week. My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult comes out with their new album… just in time for Halloween, titled Gay, Black and Married, which is such a strange title. This album is the Kult’s tribute to disco… I am definitely looking forward to getting my hands on it.

No more apologies for the lateness of reviews, I know… I am working on them. Them? Yes them, I am working on reviews for KMFDM, Apoptygma Berzerk, and Depeche Mode, they will get here when they get here.

Tuesday 11 October 2005: ijosh Music, Releases

This is a message from your Emergency Tuesday Broadcast System, please seek new music immediately, here are some selections to keep you safe. As usual nothing new this week, but the t.A.T.u. album was added into the iTunes Music Store so all of you digital buyers can download that into your collection.

We are getting a little slim on the releases, and that is pretty typical. Expect only a small trickle of new releases throughout the debt inducing buying frenzy holiday season that isn’t holiday music, there are a bajillion of them set to be released next week. Things will pick back up after the new year, they always do. We will have the much anticipated new Depeche Mode album Playing the Angel in both regular format and a two disc CD/DVD combo package. The DVD includes the entire album in 5.1 Surround sound and High definition 24bit stereo, and some video content. Also we have the Limited release of God Modules’ Viscera which includes 6 bonus tracks on a second disc and a band logo sticker. The album was most graciously imported from across the pond by Metropolis Mail Order.

Tuesday 4 October 2005: ijosh Music, Releases

Ah it’s autumn, and Tuesday, so you know what that means, CDs are starting to fall from the trees. Nothing new to add for this week, all the bases were covered.

Next week we are to expect the colors of God Module to leave Viscera on the ground as well as a live album, Alive from Diary of Dreams. Interscope Records favorite commercial bi-sexuals t.A.T.u let their sophomore release Dangerous and Moving fall from their tree.

An apology that I didn’t get to the articles I said I would. It was difficult this last week to find inspiration to write the KMFDM review when it is vying for play time with so many other good releases. And my upcoming schedule may push that back further, but I have started it so all is not lost.

Tuesday 27 September 2005: ijosh Music, Releases

You know, this week there is a Tuesday, and it’s today. That means it’s time to tell you all about what’s hitting the shelves. A few new things to mention this week. Metropolis Records added the Funker Vogt single Fallen Hero to the iTunes Music Store, it is a digital download only in domestic release… wow, say that 5 times fast. A couple of other digital aditions, Tori Amos’ “bootleg” from her show at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago showed up as well as the Extraordinary Way EP, the first of many I expect from Conjure Ones’ new album Extraordinary Ways. You can look forward to some posts later this week on the Finnish recording industry’s opinion on listing to music. Hopefully I will also get to the KMFDM review.

Until then, here is what to expect for next weeks eclectic lineup. We’ll start off with the usual stuff, Electroclash group Ladytron drops their latest album Witching Hour on us, and it sounds excellent. Next up the fathers of Sythpop — Depeche Mode bring us their new single Precious in a regular and limited edition, both of which are import only to us in the states. Rhino Records - owners of the wayback machine - will release expanded versions of Talking Heads’ eight studio albums in DualDisc format in the Brick collection. The collection will include videos and interviews and too much bonus material to cover here. It will be the 80’s all over again when I get a hold of that. When I said eclectic, I meant it, world music abounds with Afro Celt Sound Systems’ new album Volume 5: Anatomic I am very much looking forward to this now 20-plus member strong groups latest efforts. And finally something that deserves a little publicity since this album hit the net over a year ago, and the label it’s on held it forever, I el it prudent to mention it here, and it should be a decent listen too. That album would be Extraordinary Machine from Fiona Apple. I am sure she is happy to have the album out in the public after recording it so long ago.

Tuesday 20 September 2005: ijosh Music, Releases

I love Tuesdays, they just make me feel all warm inside… or maybe that’s bodily fluids. Yeah it’s a toss up on that one. Anyway, nothing new this week. With the exception of something that should have been included on it’s release date back in August. That album is Pictures from Timo Maas, one of the hottest DJ/Electronica artists around. If you like BT, Paul Van Dyk, or Paul Oakenfold you should hear Timo Maas, you won’t regret it. And the new Apoptygma Berzerk hits shelves in Europe today and shipping to US addresses from importers. No word on a domestic release date for You And Me Against the World but I can bet that there will be a different track line up to boost sales entice U.S. buyers to buy domestic.

Did I ever say that I love this time of year… maybe this is one of the reasons autumn has always seemed such nice season, the weather starts becoming more temperate instead of unbearably hot, or maybe it’s the hot new releases every Tuesday. Next week we have new one from Negative Format, Moving Past the Boundaries which sounds like electro pushing at the boundaries of techno and trance. Next is a nice collection/retouch album from Ministry. Rantology is the collection of 25 years of musical tirades from Al Jourgensen. Next is something a little softer, but this school teacher turned rocker deserves a mention, what can I say, she’s got skills. The recently engaged Sheryl Crow packs store shelves with Wildflower, saying she drew inspiration for the album from her fiance, cyclist, cancer survivor, and silicone bracelet-fad starter Lance Armstrong and his children. Wildflower is available in both standard CD and deluxe CD+DVD editions. The deluxe edition adds several bonus acoustic tracks and the video for the single “Good is Good”. Enough with the music, how about DVD’s about music; we have three this week. Two really great ones that are on my Amazon wishlist hint hint are Front 242’s Catch the Men, a live video of their recent tour, and Skinny Puppy’s live video of Greater Wrong of the Right, which is actually a 2 DVD set. Both would have been excellent tours to see live, but I am willing to live vicariously through the camera. Also released this week is a video chronicling the German Electro Line Festival, which should be a fun watch with all the good artists that performed there.

Friday 16 September 2005: ijosh Music, News, Releases

No I’m not going to tell you how to get a hold of crappy sounding fan recordings off of a cassete recorder or mobile phones. Tori Amos and her new label (Epic Records a division of Sony Music) are selling official double disc sets of her live performances online at Tori’s Bootleg Shop. Two are avialable right now at $13.98 each, and at a special price of $25.00 if you buy them together, plus shipping and handling of course.

Epic records is taking a page from it’s own playbook as they did something similar with Pearl Jam, selling their “bootlegs” in Best Buy Stores. I think this is definitely a step in the right direction offering up a product that is in demand by the fans for what seems to be a reasonable price for the high quality expected from official label and artist endorsed “bootlegs”.
